Privacy Policy for Worry Monster App

Effective Date: July 12, 2025

Worry Monster (“we,” “us,” or “our”) is committed to protecting your privacy and the privacy of your child. This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, store, and disclose personal information in connection with the Worry Monster mobile application (the “App”).

We design our app with the highest standards of child safety, data minimization, and parental control. This policy is written to be transparent, understandable, and compliant with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR-K), California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), and Apple App Store Review Guidelines.

1. Who Can Use the App

The app is intended for use by:

  • Children under 13, with verified parental consent and control

  • Teens 13+, who may create their own profiles with limited access

  • Parents or Guardians, who manage child profiles and monitor usage

We do not knowingly collect personal data from a child without verified parental consent.

2. What Data We Collect

We minimize data collection and store most information locally on your device, unless export or sync is explicitly requested by a parent.

  • First name or nickname

  • Age range (not date of birth)

  • Likes, dislikes, fears (optional)

  • Profile image (optional; stored locally)

b. Emotional Entries

  • Text, voice, or drawing of worries

  • Happy thoughts and emotional check-ins

  • Date and time stamps

c. Parental Information (collected only from verified parent users)

  • Email address (only for login, alerts, or data exports)

  • Parent PIN for security

d. Device Data (non-personal)

  • App usage statistics (frequency, session length)

  • Local error logs for performance improvement

3. How We Use the Data

We use the collected information:

  • To personalize your child’s experience within the app

  • To support mental health journaling and worry processing

  • To power parent-facing dashboards and engagement analytics

  • To send optional alerts to parents if morbid or concerning thoughts are detected

  • To improve app performance (non-personal logs only)

We do not use personal data for advertising or behavioral profiling.

4. Data Storage and Security

  • Most child data is stored locally on the device and never leaves unless explicitly exported.

  • Optional parent-controlled data export is secured behind a PIN gate.

  • Parents can set an auto-delete toggle to erase worries after a selected time period.

  • All local data is encrypted where possible and sandboxed within the app.

  • No third-party analytics or ad SDKs are embedded in the child-facing parts of the app.

5. Data Sharing and Third Parties

We do not sell or share your child’s personal information with any third parties.

We may use third-party services strictly for:

  • Secure crash reporting (non-identifiable)

  • Parent email handling (e.g., Firebase or SendGrid with encryption)

All vendors are COPPA- and GDPR-compliant.

Parents have full control over:

  • Creating, editing, or deleting child profiles

  • Exporting all app data to their verified email

  • Deleting all stored data at any time
